What gets extracted from an invoice
An invoice is three parts, and they come back separately. The header fields — invoice number, issue date, due date, PO number, vendor name and tax ID — arrive as label/value pairs. The line-item table becomes real rows: description, quantity, unit price and line total in their own columns. The totals block — subtotal, tax or VAT, shipping, grand total — is read as its own group rather than being mistaken for another line item, which is the usual failure of a general-purpose converter.
Invoices that run over several pages
When line items continue onto a second or third page, the continuation rows are appended to the same table instead of starting a new one, and a header row that repeats at the top of each page is recognised as a repeat rather than imported as data. Upload a folder of invoices at once and pages belonging to the same invoice are grouped into one output file — you get one spreadsheet per invoice, not one per page.
Layouts, languages and currencies
There is no template to configure and no per-vendor setup: each invoice is read visually, so a layout you have never processed before works the same as a familiar one. Mixed-script invoices — Arabic or Persian alongside English, common in Gulf trade documents — are read with the same model as Latin-only ones. Currency symbols and thousands separators are preserved as written; DocTable does not convert currencies.
Automatic line & total cross-check
DocTable checks quantity × unit price against line amounts and compares column sums against the extracted subtotal, tax, and total fields, flagging mismatches directly in your preview and in a Check sheet inside the Excel export.
ZATCA QR code on Saudi e-invoices
On Saudi e-invoices, DocTable also reads the ZATCA QR code — seller, VAT number, time, total and VAT — automatically, and compares its total and VAT with the numbers extracted from the invoice. A difference is flagged with the other checks, so you can review it before booking the invoice. This only compares numbers; it does not validate the invoice with ZATCA.

How accurate is the extraction?
It depends mostly on the source, not the tool. Clean digital invoices read most reliably, while faint print, skew, glare and handwriting are what cause errors. On a 12-document test set (invoices, bank statements and receipts, including 2 degraded photos and 2 Arabic documents) DocTable read 97.5% of 521 values exactly (October 2026); real photos with blur or glare score lower, so always review amounts, tax lines and totals before using them for accounting or tax purposes.
Does it read the ZATCA QR code on Saudi invoices?
Yes. The QR code (seller, VAT number, time, total, VAT) is read automatically, and its total and VAT are compared with the extracted numbers; a difference is flagged for review. It compares numbers only and does not validate the invoice with ZATCA.
How do I extract data from an invoice PDF?

What is invoice OCR?
Invoice OCR reads the text on an invoice image or PDF and turns it into data. DocTable returns the fields and line items as a table and flags rows whose arithmetic does not add up.
How do I extract invoice data with Python?
Send the file to the REST API with any HTTP client: POST /v1/scan with your dt_ API key returns JSON. There is no SDK; see the API documentation.
Can I convert a purchase order to Excel?
Yes. A purchase order goes through the same extraction as an invoice: header fields and line items as rows and columns.
Can it replace vendor invoice data entry?
It replaces the typing, not the check. DocTable captures the data and flags rows where quantity × unit price or the totals do not add up, so a person reviews only those rows.
Can I import invoices into QuickBooks?
No. QuickBooks and Xero CSV export exists only for bank statements; invoices come out as Excel, CSV or JSON.
