What gets extracted
Rows and columns are rebuilt into real Excel cells, not one long line of text per row. When a table's header repeats at the top of every page — common in exported statements and multi-page invoices — DocTable recognizes the repeat and merges the pages into one continuous table instead of restarting the header block each time. Entries that wrap onto a second printed line are reassembled into the single row they belong to rather than being split in two. Complex layouts — deeply nested or merged cells — are where any OCR is least reliable, so check those areas against the original.
Scanned or digital PDF — both work
A digital PDF exported straight from accounting software and a scanned PDF from a photocopier or phone camera go through the same vision OCR. There is no separate mode to pick for either kind: DocTable reads the page images either way, so a scanned pdf to excel job and a native pdf to excel job use the same pipeline and the same accuracy.
Multi-page tables and multi-file batches
A table that continues across many pages is reassembled into a single sheet, not split into one Excel file per page. Uploading several PDFs at once — a folder of monthly reports, or a stack of documents from a cleanup project — is also supported in one batch; DocTable groups scans that belong together into one output file automatically. Each individual page still uses one credit; batching changes how the output is organized, not how it is charged.
PDF to Excel, CSV, or Word
Convert pdf to xls or the newer pdf to xlsx format, save pdf as excel, or change pdf to excel when the source is a scan rather than a native file. The same extracted table can also be downloaded as pdf to csv, or as Word when the document is closer to a letter than a table. Always verify the output before financial or legal use.
Why DocTable
- Works on scans, not only digital PDFs
- Multilingual text · same default OCR model for every language

Frequently asked questions
Is DocTable a free PDF to Excel converter?
Sign-in is required before the first scan. Sign-in gives 10 free scans, then scans use paid credits. Downloading a result is free.
Does formatting stay perfect?
OCR rebuilds tables/fields. Always review the Excel file.
Scanned PDFs?
Yes — pages go through vision OCR then export when structure fits.
PDF to Word instead?
Letter-like docs may recommend Word export.
Can I export to CSV, not just Excel?
Yes — besides Excel and Word, you can download the extracted table as a CSV file.
How accurate is PDF to Excel conversion?
It depends mostly on the source, not the tool. A digital PDF with ruled gridlines converts most reliably. A scanned page or phone photo goes through vision OCR, where blur, glare, skew and faint print are what cause errors. DocTable has not published a measured accuracy figure, so treat the output of any converter — this one included — as a draft to check, and verify totals and dates before financial or legal use.
