How it works

  1. Upload a digital or scanned PDF with a table.
  2. DocTable's AI OCR detects the rows and columns.
  3. 10 free scans after signing in — see the extracted table first.
  4. Download clean CSV (or Excel/Word) — no extra charge.

Why DocTable

Why "PDF to CSV" needs a table reader, not a text extractor

Many PDF tools that claim to convert PDF to CSV really just dump whatever text is on the page and let you sort out the columns yourself — commas that appear inside a cell's own text break the file, and multi-line cells scatter across several rows. DocTable's AI OCR reads the page visually first: it identifies the grid, then assigns each value to its row and column before writing CSV, the same way a person copying a printed table into a spreadsheet would.

Scanned or digital PDF — same path

A digital PDF exported from accounting software and a scanned or photographed page of a printed table go through the same vision OCR. There is no separate "scan mode" — upload either kind and DocTable reads the table the same way.

CSV, Excel or Word from the same scan

Every scan produces one structured result you can download in whichever format fits: CSV for importing into another system, Excel for a spreadsheet you'll edit, or Word if the page turns out to be prose rather than a table. Each scan uses one credit regardless of which export format you choose afterward.

Same product rules as every DocTable scan

Sign-in (Google or a verified email) is required before the first scan. Processing is temporary — see Security & data processing. For the same engine aimed at Excel or Word output, see PDF to Excel and PDF to Word; for table extraction phrased around the task rather than the format, see extract table from PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Does it read the actual table, or just extract text?

The actual table — it detects rows and columns and exports structured CSV, not a dump of whatever text was on the page.

Does this work on scanned PDFs?

Yes. Scanned and digital PDFs go through the same vision OCR.

Can I get Excel instead of CSV?

Yes — the same extracted table downloads as Excel, Word or CSV.

Is converting PDF to CSV free?

Sign-in is required before the first scan. Sign-in gives 10 free scans, then scans use paid credits. Downloading a result is free.

How accurate is the extraction?

It depends mostly on the source. A digital PDF with ruled tables reads most reliably; blurry scans and dense multi-column layouts are the hard cases. No measured accuracy figure has been published for DocTable, so always review the rows before use.
