What DocTable actually does
DocTable is a browser-based document converter: you upload an image or PDF, a vision-language model reads the page the way a person would, and you download structured data as Excel, Word or CSV. It is not classic OCR that only dumps characters into a text box — it rebuilds tables (rows and columns) and label/value fields so the file is spreadsheet-ready.
This image to Excel page is the same product as the rest of the site — whether you call it photo to Excel or picture to Excel, the underlying converter is identical. There is one app at the homepage, one credit system, and one OCR model. Switching the UI language never switches the model.
Tables, fields, and multi-file batches
From a photo of a table you typically get: header row, data rows, and numeric columns ready for .xlsx. From a form or invoice-style image you get fields (vendor, date, totals) plus line items when they are present. Upload several images at once and DocTable can group pages that belong together into one file instead of one download per photo — each image still uses one credit; grouping only organises the output.
How scanning and billing work
Sign-in (Google or a verified email) is required before the first scan — there is no anonymous OCR. Sign-in grants 10 free scans; after that each scan uses one paid credit. Downloading the result does not charge again. Previews and exports are temporary: uploads are not archived on our servers, and export files expire after a short time. Can ChatGPT convert an image to Excel?
A general assistant can read a table out of an image and show it back to you, and some can generate a spreadsheet file. The differences are practical rather than magical: a purpose-built tool keeps the table structure as its output format instead of as chat text, handles a batch of pages in one pass and groups them into one file, and returns the same export every time. For one image occasionally, a general assistant may be all you need.
How do I get an image into Excel?
There are two different things people mean by this. Putting the picture into a sheet is Insert → Pictures in Excel — the image sits on top of the grid and its contents are not data. Getting the contents into cells needs OCR: upload the image here and the rows and columns come back as a downloadable .xlsx you can sort, filter and total.
