Japanese OCR on the same DocTable engine
Japanese OCR here is not a separate product — it's the same DocTable app used for every other supported language. Upload a PDF or image, vision OCR extracts text, tables and fields, and you download Excel or Word. The model reads mixed-script Japanese pages (kanji, hiragana, katakana, and Latin numerals or English) in a single pass; the UI language never selects a different model.
What we optimise for
- Invoices, receipts and forms with Japanese labels and Latin numbers or bilingual headers.
- Tables with mixed scripts in one grid.
- Structured fields (not only a text dump) so bookkeeping and admin work stays in Excel.
Horizontal (yokogaki) layouts are the most reliable; vertical (tategaki) text can work on clear, high-resolution photos but is not a guarantee. For pure table photos see also image to Excel; for invoices invoice to Excel.
Privacy and billing (unchanged)
Documents are processed temporarily and are not kept as a permanent archive. AI extraction uses a third-party model over TLS — full path on the security page. Billing: sign-in, 10 free scans, then one credit per scan; downloads free.
Frequently asked questions
Does DocTable do Japanese OCR?
Yes. Japanese and mixed Japanese–English documents use the same default vision OCR model as other languages.
Does it handle kanji, hiragana and katakana together?
Yes — mixed-script Japanese pages (kanji, hiragana, katakana, and Latin numerals or English) are read by the same model in one pass.
Can it extract tables from Japanese invoices or forms?
Yes — rows, columns and common invoice fields when the layout is readable, exported to Excel, Word or CSV.
Does the UI language change the OCR model?
No. Switching the site's interface language never switches the OCR model — one model reads every supported document language.
Is Japanese OCR free?
Sign-in is required before the first scan. 10 free scans, then paid credits. Download is free.
Does it handle vertical Japanese text?
Horizontal layouts are the most reliable. Vertical (tategaki) text can work on clear, high-resolution pages, but always verify the result — this is not a specialised vertical-text engine.
